Louisiana Highway 43 runs north-south through the heart of Hungarian Settlement. Interstate 12 passes through the center of the community in an east-west direction.
This ethnic enclave, once known as Árpádhon
This ethnic enclave, once known as Árpádhon, contains many of the descendants of the early Magyar settlers who immigrated there near the turn of the twentieth century.
At the present time, residents are striving to preserve at least some of the Hungarian culture of their ancestors, though much has changed over the past one-hundred-and-twenty years since the origin of this unique community.
Hungarian Heritage Day
The AHSCA presents Hungarian Heritage Day, which takes place in April of every year. Elderly Hungarian residents, age 75 and older, are honored during a celebration of history and culture that usually includes Hungarian music, dancing and food.
Hungarian Harvest Dance
Held annually on the first Saturday of October. 2025 Harvest Dance will be at Springfield Fire Station – 32280 Terry St Springfield LA 70462 on Saturday October 4.

Doors open at 4pm for food orders, raffle items, and the Komenka Dancers performing. The Hungarian Harvest Dance celebration will begin at 7pm following the wine auction. Stay for the DJ until doors close at 10:00.
Sampler dinner box includes 1 cabbage roll, cabbage noodles, cucumber salad, 1 Kolbasz link (Hungarian sausage) and bread will be for sale for $15 each.
Fully cooked, frozen cabbage rolls made by the AHSCA organization will be available for $15 for 6 or $25 for 12 and frozen Kolbasz available 3 links for $10.
Kifli’s, other Hungarian pastries, t-shirts and other merchandise will also be for sale.

In 1976, the Bicentennial of the United States triggered a cultural awareness throughout the country, including Louisiana. In an attempt to preserve and promote the Hungarian culture of the Albany, Louisiana area, some of the local Magyar descendants established the Árpádhon Hungarian Settlement Cultural Association ( AHSCA).
After more than forty years, this organization is still an integral and vibrant part of this rural community. The AHSCA sponsors yearly events that include the Hungarian Harvest Dance, which takes place on the first Saturday of every October. Hungarian Heritage Day, an event that usually takes place in May or June, provides the community with yet another opportunity to promote the rich history and culture of the area by honoring the Hungarian descendants who are seventy-five years of age and older.
